Tata Motors Limited

Tata Motors Limited is an Indian multinational automotive manufacturing company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India and a subsidiary of the Tata Group. It was formerly known as TELCO (Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company).

Established in 1945, when the company began manufacturing rail locomotives at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. The company manufactured its first commercial vehicle in 1954 in collaboration with Daimler-Benz, AG, which ended in 1969.

The company acquired the Daewoo Commercial Vehicles Company, South Korea’s second largest truck maker, in 2004.

In January 2008, Tata Motors unveiled its ‘people’s car’, Nano, which was launched in India in March 2009. The Tata Nano is expected to shift thousands of two-wheeler owners into car owners because of its affordable price.

In May 2009, Tata Motors introduced its new range of world standard trucks called Prima.

At present, Tata Motors functions from Jamshedpur, Pune, Lucknow, Mumbai and Dharwad. It is India’s premier and only fully integrated automobile manufacturer.
