Early History of Daimler Automobile

In 1867, German inventor Nicholas Otto had develop the four cycle internal-combustion engine and in 1885 mechanical engineer Gottlieb Daimler had cobbled what many consider to be the first motorcycle. In the same year, he patented an internal combustion engine to run on gasoline.

A year later Daimler was build his first car, a ‘horseless carriage’ with a high speed engine fitted to an old fashion coach.

The history of Daimler reaches back to the year 1890, when Gottlieb Daimler founded Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft at Stuttgart.

By a same year a former associate of Daimler’s, Emile Levassor built the first true automobile, with an engine in the front, a clutch, shaft and gears.

One year later the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft started up its first production facilities in Unterturkheim near Stuttgart.

Ten years after organized Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft at Stuttgart, he created the first modern automobile, the Mercedes.

In 1918, they started to produce motors for aeroplanes in their plant in Sindelfingen.

After his death, in 1926, Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft and Benz & Cie, Rheinische Gasmotorenfabrik merged and Daimler-Benz was formed.

After recovering from second World War, Daimler-Benz positioned itself as an innovative manufacturer of high quality automobiles and evolved to one of the most successful car manufacturers in the world.
