Wenger

In the vicinity of Delémont in the 1890s were several rival small-scale cutlers. One of them was Monsieur P. Boechat, who began in the cutlery business in the nearby village of Courtetelle in 1893.

Soon afterward the Councilor of Delémont granted Boechat a subsidy of 20,000 francs to relocate his cutlery works to the town.

In 1886 the Swiss Army decided to equip every soldier with a regulation knife. In the year 1908, the Swiss Government commissioned the Wenger Company, located high in the Swiss Jura Mountains, to make a versatile pocket knife for issue to the Swiss Army.

Since that time, Wenger has been supplying about 50% of the Army’s needs.
