The Olympus Optical Co, Ltd., founded in 1919 in Tokyo. Olympus, original known as Takachiho Seisakusho, was founded as a producer of microscopes.
Takachiho name taken from form the holy mountain of the Amareterasu.
By 1934 the company started exported their products.
In 1951 Olympus led the development of modern endoscopy. It help to detect early cancer.
By 1990, Olympus was the world’s fourth largest camera manufacturer.
Now Olympus is the market leader in endoscopy, the examination of stomach and colons for suspected tissue and the treatment or removal of the tissues.
Other major product lines are camera, video camcorders, and clinical analyzers.
